What is a Christmas Market, and what is its historical origin?
Typically held in the weeks leading up to Christmas, Christmas Markets are outdoor events usually set in a city center that feature a variety of vendors selling holiday-related items, crafts, foods, and beverages. Twinkling lights and Christmas decorations enhance the festive atmosphere, while sounds of holiday music spread the joy of the season.
Christmas Markets date all the way back to Medieval Europe, particularly in German-Speaking regions. The “Striezelmarkt” held in Dresden, German, is one of the oldest and most well-known Markets, dating back to 1434.
What are the Dates/Hours of the event?
Dates: Friday 11/29 – Sunday 12/1; Friday 12/6 – Sunday 12/8; Friday 12/13 – Saturday 12/14
Hours of operation: Fridays: 5pm-10pm; Saturdays: 11am-10pm; Sundays: 11am-6pm
Where is the Market located?
The Market will be held at Mylander Plaza, located at 108 Shoreline Dr., in downtown Sandusky.
Is there a cost for admission?
No cost for admission.
Is the event Family Friendly?
Absolutely! The Market is for ALL ages!
Is the Market accessible for persons with disabilities?
We aim to make the Market as accessible as possible to ALL. There are ramps and accessible restroom facilities on-site.
Are there fully accessible restrooms?
In addition to an accessible restroom, a first of its kind, FULLY ACCESSIBLE single person restroom unit, with adult changing table, hoist, and more, will be provided by Momentum Refresh.
What should I bring?
Bring cash and card for purchases, be sure to wear comfortable shoes, and dress warmly (this event is held entirely OUTDOORS), and your holiday spirit!
What Vendors will be present?
There will be dozens of vendors offering a variety of handmade crafts, holiday decor, unique gifts, food and beverages. Please stay tuned for specific Vendor information coming soon.
Do vendors accept credit cards?
Most vendors do accept credit/debit cards, however, there may be a few that will only accept cash.
Will there be entertainment?
The Market will have a stage set up to showcase local choirs, and entertainers, in addition to other exciting events. Please see the Event Calendar for most updated information.
Where should I park?
There are a number of parking garages in the area, as well as some street parking.
How can I get involved?
There are lots of ways to support this year’s Market. Apply to be a VENDOR, or check out the different SPONSOR Packages. the event. Additionally, the VIP KICK-OFF PARTY is another great opportunity to support this year’s market and be a part of the BIGGEST PARTY in town!

Will the Market run in case of inclement weather?
The Sandusky Christmas Market will operate, as weather permits. However, in case of extreme weather conditions, the decision will be made and communicated via our website and social media channels.
